She was a contemporary and traditional a Mexican-American star who bound together both worlds in a singular way--and provided incredible Tejano music to a mainstream audience. Her name was rising who's tragic death threw it into turmoil. As is the norm for a gifted, charming young performer dies too soon and is buried, many mourned the greatness that she could not yet achieve. Fans have been inspired over through the years to dig their heels even harder working to make sure her accomplishments will not be forgotten. The tragic shooting death of Selena provoked a response from the Latino community that was similar with the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular in Latino communities across North America her music crossed borders of culture to impact people young and old alike. The sexy and glamorous stage performer sometimes hailed as the Latina Madonna Selena was nonetheless considered a role model for Off-stage, she was also a family oriented active in anti-drug campaigns and AIDS awareness programs.
